Professional Experience

After graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia University, I began my professional work in the hospitality industry with Pargo’s American Food and Spirits, an 18-unit restaurant chain as an operations manager and corporate trainer.  In this capacity, I opened restaurants and trained newly hired staff in policy, procedure and standards of excellence.  I also was a department manager and GM and was responsible for all functions of operations, including Human Resources, marketing, financial management, production and service.

After graduating with my Master of Management degree from Cornell University I took an Analyst position with The Breakers (AAA Five Diamond Award) to utilize my combination of education and experience on a strategic level.  In this capacity, I focused on increasing revenues in the food and beverage division.  This was accomplished through the development of a new reservation system for  holiday events and restaurants.  It was during this time that I was offered the opportunity to pursue my passion of teaching at the college level on a full-time basis at Mercyhurst College.

During my 4 years as a full-time faculty instructor at Mercyhurst College (now Mercyhurst University), I utilized my education and experience in management to teach courses in the Walker School of Business, including Principles of Management, Human Resources, and Leadership in Organizations.  I also used my professional experience to teach courses in the hospitality department, including Wine and Spirit Management, and hospitality focused business courses and electives.

During this time I also consulted for a variety of organizations on such topics as Customer Service, Operations Management and Human Resources.

After moving to Philadelphia with my wife, Christine, I took a Human Resources position at The Art Institute of Philadelphia as Director of Training and Development.  In this role, I designed, organized, delivered and administered all aspects of the planning and implementation of a comprehensive training and development program for all faculty and staff of the college.  For faculty, this included quarterly faculty development programs, technology software training, the awarding of faculty development funds for conference attendance, professional society membership funding, and was co-chair of the faculty title review committee.  For staff, I ensured all corporate training initiatives were adhered to, and directed, developed, and conducted training programs on such topics as customer service, communication, leadership styles and team synergy.  I also insured that the college was meeting the prescribed requirements of its licensing and accreditation agencies.

I taught part-time at Drexel since moving to Philadelphia in 2005 – 2010. In the LeBow College of Business, I taught undergraduate and graduate onsite and online courses in Organizational Behavior, Leadership and Human Resources. In the Goodwin College of Professional Studies I taught courses in Hospitality Management. These include courses in Customer Service, Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, Leadership, and my personal passion –Wine!

In 2010, I accepted my current position, teaching full-time at Saint Joseph’s University in the Management department of the Erivan K. Haub School of Business.  In my current capacity I teach undergraduate and MBA onsite and online courses in Management and Organizational Behavior.  I also manage the Adjunct Faculty Program for the department, which includes recruitment, selection, scheduling, communications and reviews.  In this role, I also advise students in resume development, career management, and provide guidance on life’s lessons.

“This course challenged me to expand my knowledge of how essential it is to nurture and help grow human potential in the workplace. When starting this course, I did not know what to expect, but Professor Alleruzzo created a safe environment in the classroom so that the students could express themselves and feel heard. Since I started my graduate program, I had not experienced the type of dynamic that I witnessed in that classroom. The MGT 551 classroom throughout the semester transformed into a cohort where the students supported and helped each other, whether it was with school work, giving tips on what to do in an interview, or even helping each other with personal matters. And the truth is you have to give credit where credit is due, and that was thanks to Professor Alleruzzo. (…) I will cherish the experience and the knowledge that I acquired in his classroom.”

Student Evaluation, Saint Joseph’s University

“Through the years, I’ve worked with many educators, but few have the presence and authority that you project.  You are a ‘natural.’  Let’s plan to work together again.”

“His door is always open …  He is easily accessible and is an exceptional listener who thrives on helping and mentoring …”

“He is admired by students and faculty alike for his classroom teaching style, his course organization, and his ability to communicate clearly, as well his mastery of his subject material.”
